Amita (female)

Derivative of:Amity (F)

Source(s): The Oxford Names Companion, OUP
Notes:

Modern English apparently derived from Amity from Latin "friendship".

In Latin amita means "maternal aunt" but this seems to us to be an unlikely derivation!
