Jessicawas coined in Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice. It does not occur in the 1841 Aberdeenshire Census and is believed to be very rare in Scotland, where Jessie is a ubiquitous synonym for Janet. Jessie as a Pet Name for Jessica is mainly to be found in England.
