Notes:

English and German elaboration of Philippa and also a tradional Scottish feminne formulation of Philip + -(p)ina.

Philip is from Greek "horse lover" but in the Middle Ages, Philippina was interpreted as "lover of pain, punishment" by Christians indulging in pain to purge their sins.
