Antonius was the original Roman family name from which Anthony and its variants were derived. It has been used as a Latinised form of Anthony or Antony in old documents. Search using Antoni* to allow for Latin case endings.

The origin of Antonius is obscure but may be either from Latin "worthy of praise" or from Greek anthos, "flower".
