1. German derivative of Konrad, the German form of Conrad, from Old German "bold counsel". Kurt is now a forename in its own right with the modified meaning "brusque" and hence a variant of Curt.

2. Kürt is the Hungarian form, probably from a different source being the name of a Hunnic chief who lived in the 6^th century; he was the great grandson of Atilla the Hun.
