Notes:

English. Very rarely used as a forename, Lazarus comes from the Biblical name, Eleazer, Hebrew "God helps"; NT John 11:1-44 and Luke 16:19-31.

In the Middle Ages Lazarus was used as a term for lepers, hence its unpopularity. It is found mainly as a Jewish or German surname.
