In English, Loren is usually a female name, being a spelling variant of Lauren [q.v.]. However it may also be a male name.

In Italian it is the equivalent of Laurence/Lawrence, from the Latin name Laurentius, "man from Laurentum", and hence a variant of Lorenzo.

The spelling Lorin is mainly US.
