Anguish (male)

Can be spelt:Angus (M)

Source(s):
Private communication [GM]
Notes:

A correspondent [GM] reports Anguish being recorded quite frequently in several early US Census records from 1790 to 1850, particularly in North Carolina. We believe this might be a local phonetic spelling of Angus although documentary links have not yet been ascertained. On the other hand, both spellings appear on one page of the 1790 Census. Such a spelling might not be found by Soundex searches.
